The Search

A tangent from kiteboarding, snowkiting is quickly becoming its own sport with worldwide growth. Snowkiting has enabled people that live in terrain poor areas the ability to ski or snowboard. Where snow covered rolling hills were once unridden due to lack of vertical, now they are a playground for snowkiters. In addition, snowkiters who do live in mountainous areas can now access large areas of terrain without hiking. Before accessing these areas would take a lot of effort. A traditional backcountry day would be a day of hiking with only a handful of runs. With a kite you can get numerous runs in a matter of minutes.

The Future

I see the future of snowkiting lying in the backcountry access. Mountain wind in the winter tends to be constant and reliable at high altitudes. Riders will be able to access amazing terrain with a free ride up that only takes minutes. A personal helicopter. Tapping into the snowsports industry and its vast amount of riders will be an intricate part of the sports growth. Once people get more comfortable with kites they will realize the potential that kites have to offer. Being able to jump off a cornice, make a big bottom turn, shoot back up and lay a surf turn on the lip of the cornice is just one example of the 3rd dimension snowkiting offers to skiing or snowboarding.
